Nicolas Maennling leads the economics and policy research at CCSI and is a development economist with experience in the public and private sectors. From 2011-2012, he advised the Ministry of Finance in Timor-Leste on issues including inflation, macroeconomic forecasting and fiscal sustainability, as part of the Earth Institute’s advisory project to the Government. Previous to his employment at the Earth Institute, he spent three years in Mozambique, first as the resident Overseas Development Institute fellow in the Ministry of Industry and Trade working on the design and implementation of Mozambique’s industrial policy. He then served as a consultant for a private bulk commodity shipping company, LBH Group, and the UK Department for International Development (DfID) on resource extraction projects in northern Mozambique. He received a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Birmingham (UK) and a Master of Science in Economics from the University of Warwick (UK).

Jana Morgan is the Director of Publish What You Pay – United States and leads the coalition’s efforts to bring transparency and accountability to the oil, gas, and mining sector. Her work includes guiding the coalition’s advocacy and research strategies to ensure the strong implementation of Section 1504 of the Dodd-Frank Act. She also collaborates with PWYP coalitions around the world to push for a global oil, gas, and mining payment transparency standard. She is an alternate civil society representative on the United States Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative multi-stakeholder group, as well as a Global Council member of PWYP International, representing North American and Europe. Previously, Jana worked at Global Witness, doing advocacy and in country field research on Afghanistan’s extractive sector, conflict minerals exploitation in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, and the development of governance systems for Uganda’s emerging oil sector. Jana holds an MA in International Relations from the Maxwell School of Syracuse University and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Conflict Resolution. She received her BA in Government from St. Lawrence University.

Waseem Mardini is the Policy Advisor at Publish What You Pay – United States. His work includes research, writing, and campaign strategy in service of coalition efforts to secure a strong implementing rule for Section 1504 of the Dodd-Frank Act. He has previously worked on extractive industries governance with the World Bank, on transparency and accountability with the Open Society Foundations, and international human rights law with the Open Society Justice Initiative. Waseem holds an MA from the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University and a BA in Political Science from the University of Pittsburgh.

Tommy Morrison is a Data Associate at the Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI). He works on NRGI's open data initiatives, focusing on the collection, dissemination and use of open data in the oil, gas and mining industries. Tommy's work includes building applications and processes to aid in the collection of extractives data; managing the development and upkeep of NRGI's data portals; and supporting NRGI objectives with data analysis and visualization. Prior to joining NRGI, Tommy worked as a research assistant with Publish What You Pay - United States in Washington, D.C., where he used data on the oil, gas and mining industries to advocate for increased financial transparency. He holds a B.A. in economics from Boston University.

Dr. Eirich is the Director of the Quantitative Methods in the Social Sciences (QMSS) MA Program and is appointed Lecturer-in-Discipline within the Department of Sociology. He researches the causes and consequences of socioeconomic inequality, with a particular focus on family processes. He has studied “rich-get-richer” dynamics in the CEO labor market and the cumulative academic consequences of reading ability groups in the early education. He has many on-going projects in collaboration with MA and Ph.D. students. His work has appeared in the American Journal of Sociology (with Thomas Diprete and Matthew Pittinsky), Annual Review of Sociology (with Thomas DiPrete), International Journal of the Sociology of the Family, Research in the Sociology of Work, in Adolescence in the 21st Century: Constants and Challenges (eds, Frances R. Spielhagen, Paul D. Schwartz; Information Age Publishing), and most recently, in the Journal of Family Issues. Prior to teaching, Greg was a senior consultant conducting health care research at The Advisory Board Company in Washington, DC.

Elena Krumova is the Assistant Director of the QMSS Program. She holds a PhD in Sociology from Columbia University and has several years of experience teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Previously, she has been a Visiting Assistant Professor at the School of Public Policy at Central European University, Budapest and a Post-doctoral fellow at the Harriman Institute at Columbia University. Elena has a lot of experience advising students and over the last decade, she has helped scores of students conceive of and complete complex research projects.

Christine Baker-Smith is an Adjunct Lecturer with the QMSS Program. She holds a PhD from New York University in Sociology of Education and is currently an Education Policy Analyst for the NYC Independent Budget Office. Her work focuses on how schools function as social structures contributing to stratification and inequality, with specific interest in discipline and school choice policies. Christine's background is in mixed-methods research, with specialized training in statistics and applied data analytics. Prior to joining QMSS as faculty, Christine was the Program Manager for the Quantitative Methods in the Social Sciences M.A. program at Columbia University. She also served in the District Office of a New York City Council member in the early years of Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s administration. Christy also holds an Ed.M. in Leadership, Policy and Politics from Teachers College, Columbia University, an M.A. in Social Sciences of Education from Stanford University, and a B.A. in Sociology from Whitman College.

Garrett is an intern for the Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment. He has been a member of CCSI since 2017 and is responsible for coordinating event outreach, editing CCSI's literary products, and research assistance. He is a member of the Columbia Sustainable Financial Professional Network and is a full-time student pursuing his Master of Science in Sustainability Management. Jade is a first-year student at QMSS, specializing in Data Science. She serves as Data Dive Chair at QASR. She graduated magna cum laude from Columbia University and Sciences Po Paris where she obtained two BA’s in Political Science and the Social Sciences. She is particularly interested in the intersection between politics and data science, fiercely advocating for the power of data to promote good governance and government accountability.

Meghan is the Program Coordinator for QMSS. She studied Theatre and Environmental Policy at Northwestern University where she subsequently worked as a Research Coordinator for the Science of Networks in Communities Research Group. She has been with the QMSS program since 2016 and is responsible for coordinating all academic operations and enrichment activities. Beyond QMSS, she is involved with a number education outreach organizations within New York City.
